Week 4 | Scene ARRANGEMENT | Layers / Stager / Gizmo

Stager

Stager (Tools > Geometry > Stager) is a great tool for those who hate commitment. It allows for subtools to be saved into two different states, but with a little more function. For example you can build an item like a bracelet at the 0,0,0 origin in ZBrush. Set that as your “Home Stage”, and then place the bracelet on the wrist of a model and set that as the “Target Stage”. Switch between the two using “Switch Stage” to toggle between the two states. Additionally, you can still sculpt in symmetry in either state to help ensure your desired results.

To add extra flare, you can quickly create an array of interpolated steps that runs between the two states.

Layers

Layers (Tools > Layers) inside of ZBrush are very powerful when you know what you can do with them. Layer can attribute to better organization, the randomization of the shape of an object, the bookmarking of the state of your mesh, a build up of polypaint, and so much more. For this project we will look at how to create a new layer and utilize it to help set the scene with our sculpted items.

Next Week

Please come in with your arranged bowl of fruit display. Make sure that you save your work into the “Deliverables” folder. We will be starting next weeks class with our first critique. Make sure that you have all required slides ready for the critique.

Lab Day

Now that you have read through what is to be expected for this class session and the next, regarding our critique, please use the rest of this class time to finish your sculpting and fruit arrangements. I am available for you to ask question and to give demos for you all as needed. No Color! Remember, this is a black and white assignment only. Any submissions with color will be receive a request for changes.
