The Nevermind

In the dark, ancient corners of the earth, where the light of day dare not tread, there lurks a creature of unspeakable horror. The Nevermind, it is called, with a beak for a face and horns that protrude from the sides of its jaws. Its eyes are but empty sockets, black and empty, yet it can see all.

It is a being from the abyss, a hunter of nightmares, devouring them as they take shape in the minds of the sleeping. And as the dawn breaks, it retreats back to the abyss, a dark wraith, a creature of nightmare.

But there came a time, when the Nevermind found itself drawn to a young maiden. Plagued by the terrors of the night, her dreams were haunted by entities from beyond the stars. And the Nevermind, sensing her distress, took it upon itself to be her protector.

Each night, as the maiden lay down to sleep, the Nevermind would appear, a silent sentinel, watching over her as she dreamt. And when the nightmares came, it would pounce, devouring them whole, leaving the maiden to slumber in peace.

The people of the land, who had once trembled at the thought of the Nevermind, now welcomed it with open arms, for they knew that it was a creature of power, that it protected them from the horrors of the night. But little did they know the true nature of the creature, and the cosmic implications of its existence.

For the Nevermind was not just a monster, but an avatar of an ancient and terrible deity, worshiped in dark rites by cults hidden in the shadows, who had been waiting for its return to bring about the end of the world.

The maiden, who had grown to love the creature, was horrified to learn the truth about her protector, but it was too late. The Nevermind, having fulfilled its purpose, unleashed its power upon the world, bringing about a nightmarish end for mankind.

And in that final moment, as the maiden lay dying, she saw the truth of the universe, the vast and uncaring cosmic entities that existed beyond the stars, and the insignificance of humanity. And she knew that the Nevermind was not a savior, but an agent of destruction, a harbinger of the end of all things.
